The world seems to be going mad for Halloween this year, and if you are venturing out in the East End of London on Saturday, and find yourselves at Broadway Market, look up. The whole length of the street features small ghouls and ghosts lining the shops above the eye-line. The thing I guess I like is that someone has gone out of their way to decorate the street...they are all well done for a limited budget, always a good thing...

The new D’Espresso on Madison Avenue (at 42nd)in New York has certainly caught our attention. The reason for the attention is the fun design by the Manhattan-based nemaworkshop, a team of designers and architects that has created numerous cool retail and hospitality concepts. Founder Anurag Nema took the idea of a coffee shop that looks like a library – giving a nod to the nearby New York Public Library’s Bryant park branch – and turned it on its side.

The walls are not lined with books but the floors and ceiling are. Except that it is all an illusion, a life-size image of books printed on custom tiles. Pendant lighting does not hang from the ceiling; it sticks out from the walls. Not sure if you would feel a bit dizzy if you worked there daily but there you go....

Designed to encourage domestic farming, the coop is made from strong cedar wood, which is fresh scented and naturally antibacterial, and features stainless steel trimming, locks & fasteners together with an elevated glass dome. I reckon I know someone who will want one of those!

Last night, we attended a rather interesting venue in deepest darkest Stratford. Atop the unfinished concrete hulk of what will one day be a John Lewis car park, a curious collaboration has been brought to life. The Australian retail mega-corp Westfield has teamed up with Bethnal Green based gastronomists Bistroteque and a committee of cultural ‘leaders’ to transform the 9th floor deck intoStudio East, an amazing venue with a unique Olympic vantage, as you can see from the pictures.

The evening, costing £75 (it is more than possible to drink £75 worth of cocktails!) covered all food and drink...and everybody was seated on long communal tables as a constant stream of food and drink emerged from somewhere unseen. The food was great, ranging from Crab and Grapefruit, through to Sea Bass and Roast Beef served on big plates along the centre of the table. A bit like being at a wedding, interesting evening, great back drop, great fun! Well recommended..get yourselves to Stratford!

Yep, the time has come for us to move our studio. We have now moved to the heart of Shoreditch, right next to Cargo and The Centre for Visual Arts, 81 Rivington Street to be exact. It’s a 1930's Grade II listed building, with original art deco character with a rather fantastic roof garden with spectacular views of the City Skyline...

Olympus has announced a prototype of three dimensional camera made from Japanese evergreen wood at Photokina 2006.The camera is made by three dimensional compression of the wood using latest technology. Japanese cypress wood was compressed for the model. The hardness of the compressed wood exceeds that of plastic. The camera uses microscope lens A Japanese cypress is an evergreen that grows to between 100 and 130 feet tall with a base diameter from two to five feet. With a wooden camera, you would imagine you can’t get greener than that eh?
